Luxon LED Technology

Luxon LED Luminaires

Luxon LED luminaires are made of plastic or aluminium, depending on application and operating conditions. Except for cases where the design or manufacturing costs are the deciding factors, the main purpose of LED luminaries is an efficient heat removal and a design guaranteeing an optimum light reflection or diffusion.

The luminaries are made of extruded aluminium profiles, aluminium sheets and components featuring high thermal conductivity and low weight.

High power luminaires also require heat sinks. We calculate the heat performance for specific application and plot a curve, that guarantees a removal of required heat to ensure proper LED operating conditions and long lifetime. The design also protects power supply against the heat radiated by the heat sink. The luminaries used in high humidity and high dustiness areas or exposed to mechanical damage are also reinforced and sealed.

Industrial:LED and Optima:LED luminaries are made of ABS featuring high impact strength (crack resistance), high hardness, high scratch resistance and low weight. It is much easier to obtain a high protection rating (IP) in plastic luminaries used in low power industrial applications not requiring heat sink.

The design of all luminaires is consulted both with the LED lighting experts and the designers, to make sure the Luxon luminaires go well with a modern design.

LED Technology


Color Rendering Index (CRI) – is a measure on a scale of 0-100 of the ability of a light source to reproduce the colours of various objects faithfully. The closer the value is to 100, the more natural is the colour perception. Incandescent lamps and the sun have a maximum CRI.

Colour temperature

A hue of light emitted by a light source is defined by a colour temperature corresponding to the temperature of an ideal black body radiator.

Luminous efficacy

A luminous efficacy is the ratio of luminous flux to 1 W of power consumed by the light source expressed in lumen per watt unit (lm/W). The higher the value, the more cost-effective the light source is.

LED power

The classification is simple: high power LED – PowerLED – power above 1 W, mid power LED – power approx. 0.5 W and general class of other LEDs with power below 0.25 W.

LED lifetime

A luminous efficacy is the ratio of luminous flux to 1 W of power consumed by the light source expressed in lumen per watt unit (lm/W). The higher the value, the more cost-effective the light source is.

LEDs in our designs

Luxon products feature two types of OSRAM Duris E5 LEDs. It is one of the most advanced mid-power LEDs available today. Its luminous efficacy exceeds 130 lm/W and L70 lifetime in all LUXON LED application exceeds 50,00 h, calculated in accordance with the Commission Regulation (EU) No 1194/2012. Duris E5 LEDs are used in Smart:LED and Intel:LED luminaries, whenever a uniform and an elegant illumination is required.

OSRAM Oslon Square – is a 700 mA supplied LED with extreme efficacy up to 150 lm/W and L70 lifetime of up to 100,000 h. It features 2 mm2 chip and ceramic package with high mechanical strength and is used in Highbay:LED luminaires and custom track-light designs.

Heat management

LEDs generate both light and heat that must be removed. The main parameter describing the efficiency of heat removal is a thermal resistance of material used expressed in kelvin per one watt of power emitted (K/W), defining an increase in component temperature at specific emitted power.

Product control test methods

When designing our LED luminaires, Luxon LED engineers first and foremost consider data reliability. We use advanced test methods, based on Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) standards, to determine light flux, colour temperature and lifetime. All light distribution curves are certified by the Institute of Physics of the Wrocław University of Technology..
